I had been thinking about doing a Yoga Teacher Training for a long time. Last year, after careful online research, I finally decided to book the course at SOY. What mattered most to me was a small group, an intensive and solid foundation (good alignment), and an introductory yet meaningful overview of yoga philosophy — and this training truly delivered all of that. Having the rice fields and the shala almost to ourselves felt like a real blessing. Practicing yoga, meditating, and learning in such a peaceful and supportive environment made the whole experience very special. Before the course even began, Indah was always available for questions and incredibly responsive, which already made me feel well supported. During the training, Helen guided us with discipline, clarity, loving words, and an inspiring presence. Her way of teaching was both grounding and motivating. Though it is important to note that the course is very much focused on right alignment and basic understanding of postures (which are very important) so for someone who is looking for variation or flow yoga, they could feel “thirsty” for more advanced practice. The breakfasts were delicious, and the overall environment was calm and nurturing, even though the location is in a very busy area of Ubud. Although it was a teacher training, it became much more than that for me. I learned not only about yoga, but also a great deal about myself. Thank you for this beautiful and transformative experience.
Yoga Teacher Training in the middle of the rice fields in Ubud — truly paradise on earth. 🌾✨ The last three weeks have been an incredible journey and a deeply transformative experience for me. Helen is an amazing and inspiring teacher — incredibly supportive, with a way of teaching that genuinely changes how you practice yoga. Through this training, you gain strong foundations in yoga, along with a deeper understanding of philosophy. I personally loved the approach to postures and techniques; everything was taught with clarity, intention, and care. Thank you, Shades of Yoga, for such a beautiful and enriching experience. There couldn’t have been a better way. 🙏
Hello, my name is Sal, and I’m from California. My experience with Shades of Yoga was truly incredible. Not only did I deepen my yoga practice, but I also learned how to speak confidently and really take up space in the world. I would absolutely recommend this course to anyone looking for a new experience or hoping to connect with like-minded individuals. I was lucky to visit Bali during the rainy season, which created a more intimate learning environment that I genuinely loved. Coming into the training with a beginner’s mindset was powerful for me. Even though I’ve practiced yoga for years, revisiting the foundational skills completely blew my mind. The Yoga Shala itself has amazing energy, and waking up every morning to meditation set the tone for such meaningful days. The lessons were fascinating and allowed me to dive deeply into both the physical and philosophical aspects of yoga, reconnecting me with what truly lights me up. Helen is a wonderful teacher. You can feel the heart and soul she pours into this course. She is an incredible mentor and has a unique ability to adapt the space to what’s needed in each moment. Indah was also so communicative and supportive throughout the training, and it was such a gift to be able to fully detach from our phones while she captured moments for us. That balance made the experience even more special and present. Overall, I was more than satisfied with the course and its content. If you’re considering a yoga teacher training, I highly recommend choosing this one. It truly teaches you how to teach yoga in a safe, mindful, and embodied way
Rice fields, yoga - connection to Divine, to body, to breath, to your trueself. I couldn’t imagine better place, and better teacher than Helen to have 1st yoga teacher training. You will get knowledge about time as well because 3 weeks here goes faster than one shift at work. Fun activities, getting knowledge by conversations and activities. If you looking for Yoga Teacher Training, if you looking for way to yourself, if you looking where to do your first steps with awareness, you will find it here.
Came across SOY on a quick chatGPT search and signed up not thinking much about it. SOY is a small school unlike some of the big prominent yoga schools in Bali. But the experience I had here is unlike any other. The smaller group classes allowed us to explore the topics we learned further beyond the textbook, there is space for us to bring our own perspectives to the content. besides yoga alignment/philosophy/anatomy etc. I think the most valuable thing I learned was I learned a lot about myself. Highly recommend this experience.
