GoogleAmazing place with their amazing bird sanctuary "sukavana". It's a must visit in your mysore itinerary. It's totally free of cost, but they charge for taking pictures with the birds.
Sachidananda maintains a standard of excellence. I practiced in this Shala for three months and completed the teacher training in March. Chidananda teaches with precision, kindness, and a steady and consistent approach to Asana. He has an incredible eye for alignment, and keeps you attuned to your body in a very holistic scope. In this way, you gain strength, flexibility and control that assures you longevity and wellness for a healthy, lifelong practice. This is a very peaceful and spiritual Shala. It is made clear that Asana is only a part of the true practice, with equal emphasis on all of the Principals of Yoga. Chidananda's father teaches Pranayama at the Shala, as well. I found my connection to my practice profoundly deepened through this Pranayama, and I highly recommend it in conjunction with your Asana practice. I am very grateful to be connected with this Shala, it's lineage with BNS Iyengar, and its standard of excellence and devotion to all of the Principals of Yoga. 🙏
I have been practicing Ashtanga yoga since 2014 in various locations with different teachers. In 2017, I completed teacher training with Richard Freeman and Mary Taylor, which was an amazing journey. However, I have never felt the way I do now in this Shala and with this teacher. What I'm about to share are my observations and experiences. Each person has their own observations and experiences in life. I have been learning, and I am still learning, from Sachidananda. He is a patient, modest, wise and authentic teacher who teaches Ashtanga yoga in a spiritual way. The energy in the Shala is amazing, with good frequency and vibrations. Sachidananda has a pure heart full of love. He treats all students equally and he is dedicated to his teachings. He is always happy to share his knowledge and gives everything he knows to the students. Sachidananda's techniques and way of teaching have helped me achieve things that I never thought possible in these years. He is considerate and takes his time when teaching new postures. As a student, you need to be patient and wait because the results will amaze you. I am grateful for his existence and the impact he has had and still has on my yoga journey. In the world of Ashtanga, we are taught that there is one holder of the lineage of Ashtanga yoga. But this is not true; there are more holders of the lineage, and there are other aspects of the practice that we should always pursue and search for the truth. 🙏🏼
I completed my teacher training course (TTC) here in Jan 2025. The shala is small which means that Chidananda is able to give all students attention and adjustments in the morning class. Yet it was in the afternoon deep dive Asana class that I gained a completely new undertading of each asana and the transitions. Chidananada is a master of technique, alignment and breaking down postures to the students ability. Also all other classes part of the TTC were well organised and informative. I would highly recommend the shala to anyone looking to do mysore classes, pranayama or a TTC in Mysore.
The best decision that i made during my journey in mysore was to study in Sachidananda, i improved a lot thanks to the teacher Chidananda, he is an amazing architect of the body. He has a lot of knowledge in alignments, he respects your level and at the same time he shows you how you can improve, the attention is personalized. If you really want to go deep in your practice this is the right place for you. I will definitely come back.
